Jenna and Bethany Reid

Sisters Jenna and Bethany Reid were born and brought up in the small village of Quarff,
Shetland. Introduced to the fiddle and piano at a young age, the girls have gone onto become leading lights of Shetland’s fiddle tradition.

Both are previous winners of Shetland’s Young Fiddler of the year competition and members of prominent Scottish ensembles RANT and Blazin’ Fiddles.

Album releases include:

  • ‘With Silver & All’ 2005 by Jenna Reid

In 2010 Jenna and Bethany premiered a brand new piece of original music at the Celtic Connections Festival. Entitled, ‘Escape, The Story of Jan Baalsrud and the Shetland Bus’ , the work was inspired by WWII crossings between Shetland and occupied Norway, which became known as the ‘Shetland Bus’. The piece was subsequently recorded and toured throughout Scotland and Norway.

Promoting and performing the music of Shetland is at the heart of their work and as part of this Jenna and Bethany were invited to curate Shetland Fiddle Frenzy in 2013, 2014 and 2015. In conjunction with Shetland Arts, the girls welcomed 100 students to learn Shet-land fiddle and guitar from a host of the islands best tutors, alongside cultural trips throughout the islands and magical musical experiences for each visitor, the festival has at-tracted people from all over the globe.

This hard work and passion for their music is evident in their work in RANT and¬†Blazin’ Fiddles.
RANT received a Herald Angel Award for their performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on launching their debut album, followed by a nomination for the Radio 2 Folk Award for Best traditional track.

Blazin’ Fiddles received the award for Folk Band of the Year in the 2014 Scots Trad Music Awards.
